چکیده

We demonstrate an automated method for proving statements in temporal logic about continuous systems, even in the face of incomplete knowledge. The method combines an implemented, on-they , model-checking algorithm for statements in the temporal logic CTL* 3, 4, 5] with the output of the qualitative simulation algorithm QSIM 10, 12]. Based on the QSIM Guaranteed Coverage Theorem, we prove that for certain CTL* statements, , if is true for the qualitative behavior tree produced by QSIM, then a corresponding theorem holds for the solution of any ordinary diierential equation consistent with the qualitative diierential equation that generated the QSIM behavior tree. We then show that for other CTL* formulas, if the QSIM output satisses a certain completeness restriction , then conclusions can again be drawn about real-valued functions satisfying the given incomplete description. We also show how the methods can be applied to proving properties of continuous systems in which numeric information is available.

Proving Properties of Continuous Systems: Qualitative Simulation and Temporal Logic

We demonstrate an automated method for proving temporal logic statements about solutions to ordinary differential equations (ODES), even in the face of an incomplete specification of the ODE. The method combines an implemented, on-the-fly, model checking algorithm for statements in the temporal logic CTL* with the output of the qualitative simulation algorithm QSIM. Based on the QSIM Guaranteed...

Reasoning in Logic about Continuous Systems

An intelligent agent, reasoning symbolically ill a continuous world, needs to infer properties of the behaviors of continuous systems. A qualitative simulator, such as QSI NI , con— structs a set. of possible behaviors corisis— tent with a qualitative differential equation (QDE) and initial state. This set of behaviors is expressed as a flinte tree of qualitative state descriptions. li-i the ca...

Mixed Qualitative/Quantitative Dynamic Simulation of Processing Systems

In this article the methodology proposed by Li and Wang for mixed qualitative and quantitative modeling and simulation of temporal behavior of processing unit is reexamined and extended to more complex case. The main issue of their approach considers the multivariate statistics of principal component analysis (PCA), along with clustered fuzzy digraphs and reasoning. The PCA and fuz...

Monitoring Temporal Properties Using Interval Analysis

Verification of temporal logic properties plays a crucial role in proving the desired behaviors of continuous systems. In this paper, we propose an interval method that verifies the properties described by a bounded signal temporal logic. We relax the problem so that if the verification process cannot succeed at the prescribed precision, it outputs an inconclusive result. The problem is solved ...

Trajectory Constraints in Qualitative Simulation

We present a method for specifying temporal constraints on trajectories of dynamical systems and enforcing them during qualitative simulation. This capability can be used to focus a simulation, simulate non-autonomous and piecewise-continuous systems, reason about boundary condition problems and incorporate observations into the simulation. The method has been implemented in TeQSIM, a qualitati...
